You read the books, made the freezer meals, folded the onesies in a way that would make Marie Kondo proud, and even packed the *perfect* hospital bag.
But it turns out, nothing except the actual experience of it could really prepare you for the messy reality of postpartum and the first years of motherhood.
(Or for the tension between who you were before and who you are becoming.)
From the outside, it may seem like you are holding it all together...after all, you usually do.
But when no one is looking, you're crying in the shower, questioning everything, and thinking you might be doing it all wrong even though you are doing your best.
How do I know? I've lived it too.
Of course I was expecting sleepless nights, a learning curve, and an identity shift.
I wasn’t expecting postpartum anxiety, information overwhelm, or a total examination of my past, present, and future.
To be honest, it was more like an identity crisis than an identity shift.
But I didn’t know how to tell anyone I was struggling because wouldn’t being honest mean admitting I wasn’t “good enough"?
It wasn’t until I heard my experience discussed on a podcast, saw my feelings reflected in an Instagram post, and had a friend bravely open up about her own postpartum experience that I realized a very important truth:
I was not alone.
When I became a mom in early 2020 (what a wild time!), I thought I was ready, but I still found myself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and honestly? A bit shocked by how hard it all was (even after the newborn days were behind me).
I thought something was wrong with me for feeling this way until I found support that validated my experience and learned about matrescence (the ongoing transformation we experience as we move into and through each new season of motherhood).
Now, as a certified life coach, matrescence coach, and a mama of two who understands the complexities of early motherhood, I am passionate about changing the way we see, value, and support moms during this time because you deserve better.
